Special Needs
OLDER OR LESS ACTIVE
Azmira formulas contain easy to
digest protein sources which are easier on the kidneys and are ideal for the
aging or slowing animal.
CATS:
DOGS:
-
Dogs should have their diet
regulated as they slow down you may need to feed 10-25% less per day.
-
If needed, add grated raw
vegetables to increase daily fiber intake.
-
Moisten kibble to help with
chewing and add canned food.
-
If needed feed smaller meals
three times per day to aid digestion.
-
Digestive enzymes may be
helpful as the dog naturally looses their own.
-
Always add more water to food,
older pets tend to drink less on their own.
OVER OR UNDER WEIGHT
CATS:
-
Cats generally will regulate
their own feeding. If not, feed at least twice daily.
-
If the cat is not regulating
their own feeding, feed according to desired weight.
-
Add grated raw vegetables as
extra bulk if needed to lose additional weight and to increase the feeling
of fullness.
-
Add additional protein and
carbohydrates if needed to facilitate weight gain.
DOGS:
-
It is important to feed
according to desired weight. Follow the recommendations on the Azmira
label.
-
If needed, add grated raw
vegetables, as extra bulk, to increase daily fiber intake and to increase
the feeling of fullness.
-
Add additional protein and
carbohydrates if needed to facilitate weight gain.
-
Feed at least two times per day
to increase assimilation.
PREGNANT OR LACTATING
-
Pregnant or lactating cats
should be fed as if they were kittens. This also applies to dogs, they
need to be fed as if they were puppies in order for them to get the
necessary amount of nutrients to support their offspring. It may also be
necessary to allow the animal to "free feed" during this time. Feeding or
grazing throughout the day allows better assimilation.
RECOVERY
-
If an animal is recovering from
treatment or an injury you should mix a small portion of Azmira canned
formulas with warm, not hot, water or goat's milk to form a very liquid
gruel. (Approximately one part canned formula to three parts warm water)
-
Add more food each day of
recovery remembering not to exceed the recommended daily feeding
guidelines.
-
Add additional liquid to food
because pets in this condition tend to drink less.
-
If needed, add grated raw
vegetables to increase daily fiber intake.
-
Moisten kibble to help with
chewing and add canned food.
-
If needed feed smaller meals
three times per day to aid digestion.
ALLERGIES & OTHER SYMPTOMS
-
We have found that blood sugar
and nutrient levels drop between feedings. This drop may trigger symptoms.
If an animal suffers from chronic symptoms, it is advisable to feed
smaller, more frequent meals to maintain the body. Always feed at
least two times per day.
